What are you thankful for? We here at Decline + Fall Studios are thankful to live in a country that, almost 400 years later, is still celebrating a pretty damn good party. Here’s to the party to celebrate the party!
Now, a little history.
Thanksgiving, like many other things, is an opportunity for Americans to argue about something. No one is actually sure when the first Thanksgiving took place. Many people are taught Plymouth in 1621 because why not? But Thanksgivings were a pretty routine occurrence amongst people who liked to think they were more pious and righteous than other folks. By some accounts they happened weekly.
So there is no One Thanksgiving. The Puritans in Massachusetts had them. The pilgrims in Plymouth had them. Even the Texans had them.
Oh and by the way, pilgrims aren’t Puritans and Puritans aren’t pilgrims, and this is also something to get all riled up about. Here’s someone who’s pretty put out already.
So…yeah. It’s nice to know that when you get tired of shouting at each other about politics and religion this Day of Thanks, there are plenty of relevant topics to switch to. We ourselves can’t wait to try out “The First Thanksgiving: Whodunnit?”
